Forgiveness (or not)

I got my feelings hurt recently. And as the days went by with no resolution I began to nurse some resentment. I was talking to the Lord about this situation - asking for his help - but the root of bitterness continued to grow. Then I received a text that should have made things okay but, the moment I read it, I thought ‘I’m not responding yet…I’m gonna let them feel how I’ve been feeling.’

Man oh man. We slip into sinful thoughts and attitudes so quickly, don’t we? And an unforgiving spirit is probably one of the greatest killers of spiritual health. It’s like a kink in the hose of your spiritual life…a kink that prevents the power of the Holy Spirit to flow through you.

So…the remedy? A penitent heart. And the evidence of a penitent heart? A forgiving spirit. A spirit that cries forgive me my trespasses and teach me to forgive those who have trespassed against me (Luke 11:4, emphasis mine),

This very morning I stopped dead in my sinful tracks and repented of my resentful spirit then rejoiced over the fact that because I’m forgiven I CAN forgive. Oh! The kink is now gone and here comes the joy, joy that gives me goose bumps from head to toe.

Anyone out there need to straiten out a kink in their hose? Stop and do it now…it works! Your day will brighten and grace will flood your heart.
